PROLOGUE — THE BROKEN CORE
For thousands of years, the world had been protected by a mysterious object known as the Elemental Core.
It was kept in Heaven by the gods.
The Core contained five powerful elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Lightning.
Together, they maintained the balance between Heaven and Earth.
But one Chinese New Year, something changed.
The Elemental Core began shaking.
The gods gathered around it.
"What is happening?" asked the Emperor of Heaven.
Nobody answered.
A thin crack appeared across the Core.

Another crack appeared.
CRACK!
Then the entire Core exploded.
Five beams of energy shot out of Heaven and raced toward Earth.
One was red.
One was blue.
One was brown.
One was silver.
One was yellow.
The gods tried to stop them.
They were too late.
The five energies disappeared into the world.
The Goddess of Balance looked down.
Goddess
"The elements have chosen their hosts."
"Who are they?" asked the Emperor.

"We don't know."

The gods looked at the broken Core.
Then something even worse happened.
The balance was disappearing.
The Emperor looked toward Earth.
Emperor
"We cannot leave Heaven."
Goddess?
"Then we need someone on Earth."
Five ancient animal symbols appeared.
A dragon.
A serpent.
A tiger.
A rabbit.
A monkey.
Goddess?
"The animal spirits will guide them."
The gods sent the five spirits toward Earth.
Far below, five ordinary people were beginning a journey they didn't even know existed.

CHAPTER 1 — THE FESTIVAL
Chinese New Year had arrived.
The city was filled with red lanterns, music, food stalls, and fireworks.
Kai Ren walked through the crowded streets.
He carried a bag filled with dumplings.
Kai
"This is definitely the best day of the year."
A huge dragon dance passed in front of him.
Kai laughed.
Then—
BOOM!
A firework exploded above the street.
Kai looked up.
Kai
"Whoa."

Suddenly, another explosion came from a nearby food stall.
A wooden box had caught fire.
People began running.
Crowd
"Get away!"
Crowd
"Someone call for help!"
Kai looked at the flames.
Nobody was near the stall.
Kai
"I'll do it."
Kai ran toward the fire.
He grabbed a bucket of water and threw it.
It wasn't enough.
The flames grew larger.
Kai saw a small child trapped behind the stall.
Kai
"Hang on!"

He ran into the flames.
The heat surrounded him.
He reached the child and pulled him out.
Then something strange happened.
Kai's hand touched a flame.
The fire didn't hurt him.
Instead, the flame became strangely calm.
Kai stared at his hand.
Kai
"What?"
A glowing symbol appeared on his palm.
A dragon.
Kai blinked.
The symbol disappeared.
Kai
"Okay... that was weird."
He had no idea that the first piece of the Elemental Core had awakened.

CHAPTER 2 — THE FIVE STRANGERS
Kai wasn't the only one experiencing something strange.
Across the city, Shen Wei stood beside a river.
He dipped his hand into the water.
The water suddenly rose.
It formed the shape of a giant serpent.
Shen jumped backward.
Shen
"What was that?"
The water dropped back into the river.
A serpent symbol appeared on his palm.
Then disappeared.
Shen looked around.
Shen
"Nobody saw that, right?"
Meanwhile, Liang Chen was training near a mountain.

He punched a stone.
CRACK!
The stone broke.
Liang looked at his fist.
Liang
"That was stronger than usual."
He touched the ground.
The earth suddenly shook.
A tiger symbol appeared on his palm.
Liang jumped up.
Liang
"What is going on?"
Far away, Jin Tao was standing on a rooftop.
A strong wind pushed him backward.
Instead of falling, his body suddenly moved.
He spun.
Jumped.
And landed perfectly.

A rabbit symbol appeared on his palm.
Jin stared at it.
Jin
"I have definitely never seen that before."
Finally, Wei Jun was walking through a forest.
Lightning struck a tree.
CRACK!
Wei reached toward the tree.
Lightning travelled through his hand.
A monkey symbol appeared.
Wei jumped backward.
Wei
"Okay. That's impossible."
Five strangers.
Five symbols.
Five elements.
And none of them knew each other.
Yet.

CHAPTER 3 — THE SHADOW LEGION
Deep beneath an abandoned temple, hundreds of black-armored warriors stood silently.
They were the Shadow Legion.
At the center of the temple stood their leader.
Zhao Kuan.
The Void Emperor.
A giant stone map stood before him.
Five symbols appeared on it.
Dragon.
Serpent.
Tiger.
Rabbit.
Monkey.
Zhao smiled.
Zhao
"The Core has chosen its vessels."

One of his generals stepped forward.
General
"Should we attack?"
Zhao
"No."
Zhao turned around.
Zhao
"Not yet."
He looked at the five symbols.
Zhao
"Let them discover their powers first."
General
"Why?"
Zhao
"Because they don't know what they are carrying."
Zhao smiled.
Zhao
"And when they finally understand..."
He raised his hand.
Zhao
"...we will take it from them."
The warriors marched into the darkness.

CHAPTER 4 — THE FIRST ATTACK
The next morning, Kai went to a training hall.
He was practicing his normal ninja movements when something strange happened.
His body suddenly repeated the movement from the fire.
Kai stopped.
Kai
"Why did I do that?"
A black-armored warrior crashed through the window.
CRASH!
Kai jumped.
The warrior attacked.
Kai blocked.
Another warrior entered.

Then another.
Kai backed away.
Kai
"Who are you people?"
Nobody answered.
The warriors attacked together.
Kai dodged.
He didn't understand how he was moving so quickly.
Then one warrior knocked him into a fireplace.
Kai's hand landed on the fire.
The dragon symbol appeared.
Kai remembered the strange movement.
His body moved.
One step.
Two steps.
A spin.
He raised his hands.

"Whatever this is..."

The flames exploded around him.
WHOOSH!
A glowing dragon formed behind him.
Kai's clothes changed into fiery armor.
His eyes glowed.
The Shadow Warriors stopped.
Kai stared at himself.

"What... am I?"
The dragon roared behind him.
Kai instinctively punched.
BOOM!
The warriors flew backward.
Kai stared.
Kai
"I can do that?!"

CHAPTER 5 — THE OTHER FOUR
The Shadow Legion attacked the other four ninjas.
Shen was attacked beside the river.
He touched the water.
The serpent symbol appeared.
He performed the strange movement.
Water surrounded him.
SERPENT FLOW!
He transformed.
Liang was attacked in the mountains.
He placed his hand against the ground.
The tiger symbol appeared.
He performed his movement.
TIGER MOUNTAIN STRIKE!

Rock armor covered his body.
Jin was attacked on a rooftop.
He touched the wind.
The rabbit symbol appeared.
He performed his movement.
HEAVENLY WIND STEP!
A tornado surrounded him.
Wei was attacked in the forest.
He touched lightning.
The monkey symbol appeared.
He performed his movement.
THUNDER MONKEY FLASH!
Lightning covered his body.
All five had transformed.
But none of them understood why.

CHAPTER 6 — THE MEETING
That evening, the five ninjas arrived at the same abandoned temple.
They had each followed a strange glowing symbol.

Kai
"Anyone here?"
Shen stepped from the shadows.
Shen
"You."
Kai raised his hands.
Kai
"You have the symbol too?"
Liang entered.
Then Jin.
Then Wei.

The five stared at each other.
Kai pointed.
Kai
"You all saw it, right?"
Shen nodded.
Shen
"The animals."
Liang looked confused.
Liang
"You can transform too?"
Jin crossed his arms.
Jin
"So we're all connected."
Wei looked at the symbols.
Wei
"Maybe we're supposed to find out why."
Suddenly, the temple doors slammed shut.

Zhao Kuan appeared.
Zhao
"Finally."
The five ninjas turned.
Zhao smiled.
Zhao
"You have all gathered in one place."
Kai stepped forward.
Kai
"Who are you?"
Zhao answered:
Zhao
"I am the one who knows what you are."
The room became silent.
Zhao
"You are the vessels of the Elemental Core."

CHAPTER 7 — THE TRUTH
Zhao explained everything.
The Elemental Core.
The five elements.
The gods.
The animals.
And the five pieces hidden inside them.
Kai couldn't believe it.
Kai
"So you're saying there's a piece of this Core inside me?"
Zhao
"Yes."
Shen asked:
Shen
"Why are you attacking us?"
Zhao smiled.
Zhao
"Because I need what is inside you."

Liang stepped forward.
Liang
"And if we don't give it to you?"
Zhao
"Then I will take it."
Zhao raised his hand.
The Shadow Legion attacked.
The five ninjas transformed.
Dragon.
Serpent.
Tiger.
Rabbit.
Monkey.
For the first time, they fought together.
Kai attacked from the front.
Shen created walls of water.

Liang smashed through the warriors.
Jin moved like the wind.
Wei attacked with lightning.
They defeated the soldiers.
But Zhao barely moved.
He raised one finger.
A dark wave blasted the five ninjas across the room.
They crashed into the walls.
Zhao walked toward them.
Zhao
"You have power."
He smiled.
Zhao
"But you don't understand it."
Then he disappeared.

CHAPTER 8 — THE FIRST QUEST
The five ninjas knew they couldn't stay in one place.
They needed answers.
Kai discovered an ancient map inside the temple.
It showed five locations.
One for each element.
The first was marked with a strange symbol.
THE FLAME MOUNTAIN.
Shen studied the map.
Shen
"Maybe there are pieces of the Core scattered around the world."

Liang nodded.
Liang
"Then we find them before Zhao does."
Jin smiled.
Jin
"Sounds like a mission."
Wei looked at the others.
Wei
"So we're a team now?"
Kai held out his hand.
Kai
"Elemental Five?"
One by one, the others placed their hands together.
All Five
"Elemental Five."
Their mission had begun.

CHAPTER 9 — FLAME MOUNTAIN
The five travelled toward Flame Mountain.
The journey wasn't easy.
The mountain was surrounded by lava and smoke.
At the entrance stood a giant stone door.
Five symbols were carved into it.
Dragon.
Serpent.
Tiger.
Rabbit.
Monkey.
Kai touched the dragon.
The door opened.

Inside was a huge chamber.
At its center floated a glowing red crystal.
Kai walked toward it.
Suddenly—
BOOM!
Zhao's Flame General appeared.
Flame
"You're too late."
The battle began.
Kai touched a nearby flame.
DRAGON FLAME STANCE!
Dragon Form activated.
The general attacked with a giant fire weapon.
Kai blocked.

Shen helped him with water.
The water turned into steam.
Liang broke the enemy's weapon.
Jin knocked him backward.
Wei finished the attack with lightning.
The general fell.
Kai grabbed the crystal.
It flew into his hand.
The dragon symbol on his palm became brighter.

"We found one."
But somewhere far away, Zhao felt the energy.
He opened his eyes.

"Good."
He smiled.
Zhao
"Now I know exactly where they are."

CHAPTER 10 — THE TRAP
The Elemental Five continued their journey.
But Zhao was always one step ahead.
They arrived at an ancient forest.
A mysterious voice called to them.
Voice
"Come here."
Kai looked around.
Kai
"Who said that?"
A shadow appeared.
The five prepared to fight.
But the shadow disappeared.

Paths moved.
Trees twisted.
The five became separated.
Kai shouted:

"Everyone!"
No answer.
The Shadow Legion had trapped them.
Each ninja had to fight alone.

Liang faced giant stone soldiers.
Jin battled flying enemies.

The first was Fire.

The fifth was Lightning.
But there was something else.
The fragments weren't just pieces of the Core.
They were keys.
When all five were reunited, they could open the ancient chamber where the original Elemental Core had been created.

The team eventually found an ancient scroll.
It revealed the truth about Zhao Kuan.
He had once been a guardian of the Elemental Core.
He had protected it for hundreds of years.
But he became obsessed with its power.
He believed the gods were weak.
He wanted to control the Core himself.

Zhao had spent years waiting for revenge.

The five ninjas discovered Zhao's fortress.
It stood on top of a massive black mountain.
They entered secretly.
Inside, they found the remaining elemental fragments.
But before they could take them—
Zhao appeared.

"You came exactly when I expected."
The five transformed.
Zhao laughed.
Zhao
"You still don't understand."
He raised his hand.
Dark energy filled the room.
Their animal forms began weakening.

Kai struggled.

"What's happening?"
Zhao smiled.
Zhao
"Your transformations depend on the elements around you."
He snapped his fingers.
The elements disappeared.
The room became completely empty.
No fire.
No water.
No earth.
No wind.
No lightning.
The five couldn't transform.
Zhao walked toward them.
Zhao
"Now you're powerless."

Kai looked at his teammates.
They were exhausted.
But he remembered something.
The gods hadn't given them their powers.
The Elemental Core had.
The elements were already inside them.
Kai closed his eyes.

"I don't need to touch the element."
Shen looked at him.
Shen
"What?"
Kai placed his hand against his chest.
Kai
"The element is already here."

The five attacked together.
Dragon Flame.
Serpent Tide.
Tiger Strike.
Heavenly Wind.
Thunder Flash.
The five attacks combined.
BOOOOOOM!
Zhao was thrown across the fortress.

But he stood up.

"You think you've won?"
He raised both hands.
A giant sphere of darkness appeared.
The fortress began collapsing.
Kai shouted:

"Everyone together!"
The five joined their powers.
The animals appeared behind them.
Dragon.
Serpent.
Tiger.
Rabbit.
Monkey.

Their powers combined into one giant beam.
Zhao tried to block it.
He couldn't.
CRASH!
The fortress exploded with light.
Zhao disappeared into the darkness.
The five fragments flew into the air.
But instead of falling, they returned to the sky.
The gods had reclaimed them.

CHAPTER 16 — THE GODS RETURN
The sky opened.
The five ninjas looked upward.
The gods appeared.
The Emperor of Heaven spoke.
Emperor
"You have protected the balance."
Kai looked confused.
Kai
"So we're done?"
The Goddess of Balance smiled.
Goddess
"No."
She pointed toward the horizon.

Dark clouds covered the sky.
Goddess
"The Core was broken."

"Zhao was defeated."
Goddess
"But something else escaped."
The five ninjas looked at each other.
All Five?
"What escaped?"
The Emperor looked worried.
Emperor
"The darkness that was trapped inside the Elemental Core."
Everyone became silent.
Kai looked at his Dragon symbol.
Kai
"So there's another enemy?"
The Emperor nodded.
Emperor
"Far more dangerous than Zhao."

CHAPTER 17 — THE NEW ELEMENTAL NINJAS
The gods restored the balance of Heaven.
But the five ninjas were changed forever.
They were no longer ordinary people.
They were the protectors of the elements.
Kai looked at his friends.
Kai
"So... what happens now?"
Wei smiled.
Wei
"We train."
Jin laughed.
Jin
"We fight."
Liang picked up his weapon.
Liang
"And we protect the world."

Shen looked toward the sky.

"And find out what escaped from the Core."
Kai raised his fist.
Kai
"Elemental Five."
The others joined him.
All Five?
"Five elements."
All Five?
"Five spirits."
All Five?
"One balance."
The five walked into the sunrise.
But far above them, beyond the clouds, a black crack slowly appeared in the sky.
Something was watching them.
Two glowing eyes opened.
A voice whispered:
Darkness
"The Core has awakened."
Then the darkness disappeared.
